The
Linear Equation One Variable
The equation is a mathematical statement in the form of a symbol which
states that two things are exactly the same. Linear equation is an equation
that only contains variables with the power of 1. So the linear equation of one
variable is an equation containing one variable with the power of 1:
Example :
1. 2x + 5 = 9
2.
x + 8 = 4
in the equation only contains the variable x
with the power of 1
The properties of addition and multiplication
that apply to the equation, namely:
If A=B
Then.
Ø
A + C = B+C
Ø
A X C = B X C
Ø
These properties will assist in solving these linear equation
problems.
Here are some steps done in solving linear equations of one variable.
Here are some steps done in solving linear equations of one variable.
1. If you find the problem
with parentheses, then remove the parentheses first by using distributive
properties, then operate similar tribes.
2. Use the sum property of an
equation to write the equation so that all variables are in one segment,
whereas all the constants are on the other.
3. Simplify each segment.
4. Use the multiplication
properties of an equation to produce an equation in the form x = constant.
5. For implementation problems,
answer to the perfect sentence and use the units in accordance with the command.
To further clarify, consider the following example:
1. a linear equation 3(X+5)+2X=30
, determine the value of x.
Answer: 3(X+5)+2X=30
(3x+15)+2x=30
3x+2x+15=30
5x+15=30
5x+15-15=30-15 (The two segments are subtracted
by(- 15), to make only the left
segment containing the variable)
5x=15
(both segments are divided
by 5 to get x on the left side)
X=3
2. a linear equation 2(3x+4) =10x , determine the value of x.
Answer:
2(3x+4)
=10x
6x+8=10x
6x+8-8=10x-8
(Both segments minus 8)
6x=10x-8
6x-10x=10x-10x-8
(Both Segment minus 10)
-4x=-8
( the two segments are divided by -4 to get x on the left)
X=2

To further clarify, consider the following example:
1. Age of mother 3 times his child's age. Their age difference is 30 years.
What is the age of the child and his mother?
Answer: Mother's age three times her anakanya
For example: the age of his son x years,
So: the age of his mother = 3x years.
Their age difference is 30 years, so the
equation is
3x - x = 30
2x = 30
x = 15
So, the age of his child is 15 years and his
mother (3 x 15) year = 45 years.
2. a linear equation 3(x – 1) + x = –x + 7, determine the
value of x.
Answer: 3(x – 1) + x = –x + 7
3x - 3 + x = -x + 7
4x - 3 = -x + 7
4x + x = 7 + 3
5x = 10
x = 10/5
x = 2
